CONTROLLER

Accounting Department
Reports to General Manager

DUTIES: Lead the preparation of the local annual operating plans. Outline the spending components of cost of sales, inventory, staffing, cost reduction opportunities, capital spending, and department budgets. Analyze financial performance throughout the year and help Spence Management understand performance variation and root cause. Prepare, analyze, and explain performance to the plan, forecast, and prior year, including product line margin analysis, order status, cost reduction effectiveness, working capital changes, and other related metrics. Implement corrective actions with management. Special projects as needed and other work-related duties as required.

Maintain the balance sheet review process in the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of monthly financial actions. Implement improvements for financial accuracy more relevant cost profiles, including use of activity-based methods. Work to ensure financial data can be used as a tool for management control, rather than simply a scorecard. Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and coordinate any audit activities with external and internal auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS: Six to twelve years of increasing accounting responsibility in a manufacturing environment with experience in cost and inventory accounting. Must have demonstrated record of improvements to manufacturing, cost, and inventory systems. Can identify operational problems, and initiate timely corrective actions. Demonstrated ability to anticipate, identify and correct deficiencies in general accounting and reporting systems. Experience in inter-company and multi-currency transactions. Excel proficiency (intermediate to advance level) required.

EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree; CMA or CPA a plus

WORK HOURS: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. / Monday – Friday

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typical and reasonable office environment expectations. Physical effort consists of occasional lifting or moving of average weight materials, or expending equivalent effort pulling or pushing.
